a creative surge. much needed. i'm super excited about a project i'm working on for my studio walls! it's something i've wanted to do for over 2 years and i think it will be accomplished before the weekend ends. i do love the freedom to decorate in that particular room in different ways than i do in the rest of our house. it's a room that i experiment with. very fun!
i added a few other new photos in my studio album. no more waverly blue stripe wallpaper! i just wish it would have been a brighter day yesterday so these photos wouldn't be so yellow.
tom made it home and we had our comfort dinner. i made fresh peach crisp too. yum. tom and i had just been talking about how good his mom's peach crunch was. i'm pretty sure mine wasn't as good as hers, but tom is smart enough to act like mine was really good!
last night i took family photos of brooke, josh and the kiddos. all day i thought about how to get a bow in harper's barely there hair, even emailing friends for suggestions. then in all the craziness, i forgot to put it in. so i had to do a few shots of her with her bow after the fact.
the family photo with the boys in the foreground in focus and parents blurred in the background was inspired by the amazing tara whitney. her stuff is incredible. i just listened to an interview on a podcast, where she talks about her philosophy on photography. very inspiring. my goal is much the same as hers, to keep things very simple, natural light, catching families and people as they are. one thing she talks about too, is breaking the rules...such as chopping off the tops of heads and not always having a full arm or leg in a shot, not worrying about the rules, but *seeing* things in a new way. capturing family dynamics and personalities. the photos may not capture perfect smiles and everyone looking directly at the camera, but hopefully they will capture who they are, right now. i love the photojournalistic approach. the beauty of it too, in my opinion, is that everyone has fun and it takes so little time. we did the photos last night in 15 minutes, literally, and spent the rest of the evening hanging out.
back to work today. and leah and friends coming over to swim after lunch. hopefully it won't rain...it's been pretty gloomy all morning.

Ok, I'm totally loving the new look of your studio! I hope to have a beautiful room like that all to myself someday, pure bliss. And your family photos are just precious. I DO see Tara's influence in them and that was the first thing I thought when I saw the one w/the boys in the forefront of the pic before I even read your post!! Way to go Becky!

bow trick: corn syrup! just dab a little right where you want to add the bow. works for little clippies too. :) uh, but a little goes a long way - so don't go crazy! ;)

Studio looks great, Becky! I have all of my buttons stored in different jars, too. Some new, some old, even a few vintage mason jars, just like yours. My favorite button jar is the one that has all of my old cream vintage buttons in it. Love buttons!!!
